The Norte Grande de Chile area combines the aridity of the Atacama Desert, the driest of the planet, the life of the coastal line of the Pacific Ocean, the fertility of the valleys, the stunning Andes Mountains and the disturbing silence of the high plateau. This combination of colors and contrasts invite us to experience the ancient ways of traffic in the highlands, from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean when everything was new and the Andes inhabitants used these roads to exchange culture, food and life. The route and the scenery provided by the Chilean crazy geography is going to give us the chance to form an image of the epic struggle of the old Andeans living in the highlands herding, working the land, and living with enormous simplicity and in real contact with motherland, the Pachamama, asking for her protection and thanking her with animal sacrifices. The route of the mallkus take us to the aymara spiritual heart, leading us to the religiosity of the big mountains sanctuaries their mythology and legends, protecting hills, sources of life and wisdom .
Day 1: Visit to the azapa archaeological museum with the most interesting display of the Chinchorro culture. Transfer to Putre at 3.500 masl. 1 hour trek to Socoroma.
Day 2:
Trek from Putre to the skirts of the Taapaca volcano at 4.200 masl. Stop at Jurasi hot springs. Overnight in Putre.
Day 3:
Visit to the old sulfur plant at the skirt of Tacora Volcano and trekk for aclimatizing. Hot springs. Box lunch.
Day 4 :
Transfer to Lauca NP. Trek to Parinacota-Lagunas Cotacotani. Camping at Chungara lakeshore at 4.570 masl.
Day 5 :
Trek to the Base camp of Guallatire volcano at 5.100 masl.
Day 6 :
Climbing to the Guallatire volcano from the base camp.
Day 7: Transfer to the base camp of Parinacota Volcano, at 4.500 masl.
Day 8:
Rest at the base camp and enjoy the surroundings of the Caquena big wetland with an opportunity to contemplate wild life
Day 9: ascention to camp 1 at 5.100 masl. 6 hours.
Day 10:
At 4 AM star attacking the summit of Parinacota volcano. 9 hours to the summit, and 4 to be back in camp 1.
Day 11:
Back to the base camp, transfer to Putre. Stop at Jurasi hot springs for an invigorating bath.
Day 12:
Transfer Putre-Arica.
